BowPosh for Smiles Campaign 2017

A campaign by BowPosh, a division of Laura C Cole & Co.

A campaign by BowPosh, a division of Laura C Cole & Co.

Happy September!

A huge thank you to everyone who has and who does support us in this mission!

Every year BowPosh teams up with other small businesses and individuals to put together goodie bags for kids with cancer and their families who are admitted into hospitals.

Items in these goodie bags are donated directly from the businesses or purchased from other businesses and stores using personal funds and donations. With this we are able to provide these families with a little more fun and smiles during their hospital stays!! Being away from a comfortable home, family, and friends for any amount of time can be very difficult but we hope that these gifts can make these times a bit brighter.

If you are a small business or individual who would like to join us in 2017 with items or donations, we would LOVE to have you! Please send a message to info@lauraccole.com with how you would like to help or use the link below to donate to the campaign. An address will be provided if sending or dropping off items. There are two state drop off locations (TN & FL).

We are super excited to be able to do this year after year always praying it continues to grow so that we can visit more families in more locations as well as help in other ways.

I Want To Add A Smile

Thank you again to everyone who joins us this year! We cant wait to visit Golisano Childrens Hospital to share the smiles.

Our visit should take place in late September or early/mid October. There are possible delays due to storms but we will keep you updated!

This year the theme is GOLD.

With much love and thanks,

Laura C Cole & Co. and Team

Friends Forever

FRIENDS FOREVER

Since I am a bit behind on my blogs because there is some big news coming up in the Laura C Cole & Co. world, Im going to get them all posted this week so I’m hoping I don’t overload you with cuteness ;).

I hope you enjoy. These are super adorbs, and Bentlie absolutely loves them! We let her pick out her outfit each day :).

For this outfit you will see the same shirt worn different ways, but it is one of her favorite shirts. When she sees it she grabs it and hugs it with the biggest smile!!!

This tutu skirt was originally only at Macy’s by Hello Kitty and it is super fluffy!!

She taught herself how to rock and LOVES it!

My dad never got to meet our third child, but I know he would be so proud! He loved his other two grandchildren SO very much!!

This was Bentlies birthday month so you can see how long she is able to wear this shirt! She still wears it 5 months later. Remember to size up!

I love when outfits cross. These pants are in another blog. Mix and matching will get you so much further on top of your deals!!

About the outfit:

Friends Forever T-shirt: Target Clearance- $3.49

Hello Kitty tutu skirt for Macys: Goodwill- 1.00 NWT

Cute sneakers: Garanimals: Walmart: 3.00

About the other bottoms:

Zebra ruffled skirt with undershorts: Jumping beans: Goodwill- 1.00

$3.49 was like a splurge, LOL, but this outfit has been well worth it.

Let Your Love Shine

LET YOUR LOVE SHINE

Let your love shine, always, in everything you do!!

We are doing our best to teach our kids this, and as we head back into the school year this is even more important!! We are, of course, anti-bully- having been the kids that went through that in school, even into some high school. We believe that everyone is unique, and just because they are interested or like something that someone else doesn’t, that doesn’t make them non-friend worthy! We can learn so much from each other.

Our kids have done a phenomenal job at making others feel comfortable and being their friend even when others see things differently.  I pray that they continue to show this love to everyone, giving them the chance they deserve even as adults.

Now that our oldest two (13 and 11) are going to be in high school soon, we didn’t expect to have another to experience these things, lol! I think she will be just fine as well <3.

This shirt was absolutely perfect and we found it at Target on clearance a few months ago, in March I believe.

We usually buy a size up for Bentlie so she can get some extra wear time because she grows so fast. Now that the other two are slowing down, its becoming easier with their sizes.

About the outfit:

T-shirt: Cat & Jack: Target clearance- $3.49

Bow skirt: No brand (has snowflake/star symbol- Regular price $4.97 at Walmart online): Goodwill NWT- .99 cents

Bow headband (in first photo): BowPosh by Laura C Cole & Co. can be found on our site under he BowPosh tab.

About the other pieces:

Black leggings: Forgot brand: Goodwill- $1.99

Heart leggings: Cat & Jack: Target sale- Buy one get one half off (regular price $6.00).

Bow headband (in next to last photo): BowPosh by Laura C Cole & Co. can be found on our site under the BowPosh for Kids tab.

Funny story about the heart pants coming soon!!!

Modern Country Chic

MODERN COUNTRY CHIC

Many weekends when my husband is off of work we pit stop into Goodwill to browse, but we all know that this browsing we speak of turns into pieces hanging all around the cart for us to decide on as we make our way through housewares.

This trip I remember finding quit a few pieces and this was a really nice one that was like new. Bentlie already had the pants from March.

This top reminds me of a cute country summer top that a teen would wear with some boots. We decided to keep it modern with the harem pants and glitter shoes to tone it down a bit!

It was a super HOT Tennessee day, but we paired these harem pants with the summer tank since we would be inside most of the day.

Bentlie thought it was so fun to sit in the front seat waiting on dad to go! The photo below was taken a couple of months ago! She can still wear this outfit with ease :). I think the mismatched socks she touch was just perfect!

Here she is in the same pants a few months ago with a different top (a onesie). I love how all of her pieces can be mix and matched and worn a while! It makes for a lot more outfits which is always a WIN!

This was the first time Bentlie wore these pants. In March it was still cool in TN, but its great how she can still wear these pants months later as shown above. Buy a size up!

I learned a long time ago not to let my pride keep me from big savings, and we have done a fabulous job. I wish I would have kept ALL of the receipts through these trips and sites to show how much we truly have saved by shopping deals.

About the outfit:

Top: 2 be real (could hardly read the embroidered logo on the tag): Goodwill- $1.00

Harem pants: Cat & Jack: Target clearance- $3.49

Shoes: Garanimals: Walmart- $3.00

Other pieces:

Top: Shown in another blog: Friends: Target clearance- $3.49

Onesie: With the Victorias Secret dog: Made by a friend for Bentlies 1st birthday- Free

Stretch Your Dollar or Two

Stretch Your Dollar or Two

STRETCH YOUR DOLLAR OR TWO

Babies grow so fast so after my first few months with my 1st child I was done with full price department store clothing. At that time Macys had some amazing clearance sales for toddler clothes. About $4 dollars a piece for items that normally cost about $20 and even some dresses that were $60 was saving me a fortune, but now, I can do better than $4 most of the time!!

All it takes is a little bit of leaving the pride at the stores door!

Even prices have gone up at thrift stores, especially Goodwill, but that is why our thrifting game got stepped up a few notches. This hurt my Goodwill splurges, but it only helped me be more disciplined with the tag color changes!!! That’s a positive!! My daughter has fun with this as well, but we’re still working on her discipline, lol. Watch for our post on how to work Goodwill colors, days, and coupons!

This outfit includes NWT pieces but without the new with tag prices!! We snagged this cute ensemble for less than two dollars!

We found these pieces at two different stores. Both pieces were NWT (new with tags), but not from department stores!

About the outfit:

Pink top: Carter’s: Goodwill- 1.00

White shorts: Circo: Dirt Cheap- .90 (pack of two/ white & pink 1.80)

CUTE AS A BUTTON!!

I’ll explain the “Dirt Cheap” store in another post. I had never seen anything like it until I got to TN. It has taken some getting used to but once in a while it turns out to be great!

What are some neat stores that you have in your town that allow you to save more?

VISIT Schoola: CLICK HERE and then click join in the upper right hand corner.

With Schoola, your first purchase of up to $10 is FREE. Any item that is not “New with tags” (flagged with a yellow symbol on the photo of the item or that states in the description that it cant be used with credits) can be purchased with this credit. Watch for those 50% off deals as well so be sure to like them on Facebook!

These sites DO take time to browse the items and view descriptions and sizes so PLEASE be patient (there is a lot to look through). You are able to refine your search for sizes, price, etc. It is very much worth the time you put into it to find clothing for your family. I believe once you receive your first order, you will completely agree.

***PLEASE READ the important note at the very bottom of this page***

You also receive FREE shipping with Schoola, so your entire transaction is FREE. Here are some examples :).

Be sure to like Schoola on Facebook by CLICKING HERE to stay in the loop for amazing deals. The last photo example above shows where they had a 50% sale so we received double for FREE! I mean, why not!? For every item purchased, a portion of the sale goes to a school to help with their programs such as music, art and fitness. You can even send your old clothes so that money is donated to YOUR school.

Also, after you purchase your $10, make a collection by clicking the top tabs on the site that says Collections and sometimes you can earn an extra free $10!!!

Look at these super cute items below that can be used on a regular day or for maternity!!!

The above items were just like new when received. There are no signs of wear and the pink dress was brand new.

I still have these items years later and they look just as good! Now that my baby has outgrown the photos shown, we have replaced them with more her size (more blogs are available about those and how we do it), but luckily, I haven't been out a lot of money from the kids growing up.

ThredUP

The next place to visit for another FREE $10 in clothes for babies, kids, and women is ThredUP! ThredUP has very gently used clothes (seems like new), and you have the ability to find items new with tags (unlike schoola) that you can purchase with your credits. The selection here is much better for name brands, and my go to site.

This site does have $5.99 shipping for the free purchases, but its still a superb deal for awesome, top name brands in like new condition! There are free shipping promotions at times as well as other discounts. Like them on FACEBOOK to get the codes.

Watch for notifications on your phone after you get the app (after you sign up) as well as Facebook for extra percentages off! This helps take care of some shipping, too.

The steps 1-8 from above still apply for this site! Enjoy your FREE $20.

Here is an example of a transaction from ThredUP.

***PLEASE READ the important note at the very bottom of this page***

The total amount of these items were $18.97 but came out to be $0 with 5.99 shipping.

We got some great baby clothes for a great price!! Now, they are able to help others save as well!  You just can’t beat that!

This site also has an available app for easy browsing.

These were free as well.

These were free as well.

**************************************************************************************************************

The last tip is to install the super cool app, Poshmark on your smart phone.

This way you can get a great deal, and even trade things you dont need anymore for new.

USE THIS CODE when you sign up ON THE APP ONLY for a FREE $5 credit to put toward your first purchase!!!!

Code: BOJQX

Find amazing deals on second hand AND brand new items here from sellers clearing out their closets. When you like items and they are saved in your “like” list, you will be notified when they lower their prices so you can take advantage of discounted shipping! This could mean another FREE ITEM!!

Download the APP to enter the code for your FREE $5!!!

You can view Poshmark on the web as well, but your credit is only good through the app.

Here is an example of some items from Poshmark.

These were some amazing finds and one or two were actually FREE from credits, sales, etc. The top skirt was NEW WITH TAGS and only listed for $7!!! The mustard dress was never worn, the gold and black dress was worn once (just like borrowing your sisters clothes), and the fringe tank was also NEW WITH TAGS, and listed for only $5. Awesome.

Shipping is separate from each seller, but you are able to “Make an offer” on anything you find that you like. The seller can accept your offer or counter until an agreed price is found. If the seller lowers their price by a certain amount (you can also request this instead of an offer), then Poshmark will offer discounted shipping for an hour for those who “liked” the item! Its SO FUN, and better than Ebay in my opinion. Its a huge community of some awesome ladies with awesome items and top designer items as well.

When I find more great places for amazing deals, I will be sure to update!!!!

HAPPY SCHOOLING, THREDING, and POSH SHOPPING!!!!!!

Yours Truly,

A mom saving for those big moments helping others do the same.

McKynsie Faith and Her Journey: UPDATE

Hi everyone!

As some of you may remember, BowPosh, a division of Laura C Cole & Co. began a campaign in 2015 called BowPosh for Smiles  that would allow small businesses and individuals to come together to help add extra smiles to some very brave children battling cancer at Golisano Children's Hospital in Fort Myers, FL. BowPosh teamed up with a couple of small business owner friends who helped put together gift bags for the children and their families which included hair accessories for the girls, bow ties for the bows, toys, art supplies, stickers, scrap booking supplies, Thirty One keychains and lunch totes for dad, Younique mascara and makeup for moms, as well as other fun activities to help keep the kiddos happy during long hospital stays.

This visit was a chance for us to give back and let these families know that there are others who care about what they are going through even if we didn't get a chance to speak with them all.

McKynsie with a few of her items from her gift bag from Sylvia Collazo, Danielle Steel, and Laura C Cole after their visit in September of 2015.

After this visit, Jennifer, the mother of McKynsie, who was admitted the week prior gave us photos which made our day as well!! Jennifer just so happens to be a beautiful lady we went to school with and McKynsie is fighting ALL.

100% of funds from the purchase of this headband will go to McKynsie and her fight. Click HERE to purchase and to receive a free gift as well.

Here is McKysnie's update!! Follow her journey on FACEBOOK for more updates.

Be BRAVE is exactly what this fighter has been. What you see in most updates are the positives, but you don't see all of the struggles. We cannot even imagine what these children and their families go through, especially those who haven't been there. Those of you who have, our prayers are with you, and you ARE brave as well.

Just like any battle there are ups and downs but the best UP here is that this long battle will be nearly over in October! Just in time for this beautiful family to welcome their NEW addition!!

Congratulations to the Jones family!!!!

BowPosh for Smiles Project UPDATE!!!

On September 26th, 2015 I invited some friends to join me in my first BowPosh for Smiles event in Fort Myers, FL at the Golisano Childrens Hospital located in the Lee Memorial Health System: HealthPark Medical Center.

Just a few of the BowPosh items by Laura C Cole that were included for the girls.

Just a few of the BowPosh items by Laura C Cole that were included for the girls.

It was a very rewarding visit as I had a good friend from our school days drive across the state to be present! Thank you so much, Sylvia Collazo for your travels, and for your wonderful contributions from Thirty One as a Thirty One Consultant, as well as your personal touches! You are truly an amazing person with a heart of gold.

Fabulous lunch totes that went to the dad- in camo!!

Fabulous lunch totes that went to the dad- in camo!!

Danielle Steele, I pray you and your entire family are feeling better, and just know that you are welcome to join me at any time on future projects! Your Younique mascara was a fabulous touch for these mommies, and I know they were tickled pink to receive such a gift!

The beautiful Danielle Steels, and her wonderful mascara.

The beautiful Danielle Steels, and her wonderful mascara.

This first event was quite a small one, but that was nothing to be down about. This was something that we could rejoice about because less kids in the hospital means that more kids met requirements that allowed them to stay home with their families in the comfort of their own homes rather than a hospital room!! The battle with cancer is up and down for these kids and there are no promises with numbers or with anything.

Sylvia and I found out (once we arrived to the oncology floor) that one of our old friends from high school had been admitted that same week with her daughter who has ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia). They had already been in the hospital for almost a week due to low counts for platelets, ANC (immune system) numbers, and fevers. McKynsie is only four years old, but is such a strong little girl. McKynsie was sleeping during our visit, but we follow McKynsie Faiths journey and pray for her and her family constantly. We did have the privilege to speak with her mother, Jennifer who is one of the most inspiring people I have the honor to know. Her gracefulness during these times is astounding, and she says that it is McKynsie strength that keeps her going as well. Such warriors in this battle, and they are not alone. Please, follow McKynsies journey HERE. These kids and families could use all of the love, prayers, and support they can get!!!

Read more about "ALL" HERE.

Here are some photos that Jennifer was kind enough to share with us after McKysie woke! The smile on her face is exactly what this project is all about. Little surprises can make all the difference, and how awesome that she got to wake up to something so sweet!! The siblings, and parents were not left out either!!!

Her adorable card that read "This ain't no monkey business, but you'll be swinging on healthier branches soon!" ~Sylvia Collazo inside! So true.

My 11 yo daughter Alexis also donated some scrap booking supplies and stickers from her little shop! Jennifer said that McKynsie LOVES stickers so this made Alexis sooo happy to hear. Alexis felt wonderful and asked if this is what that feeling is supposed to feel like as she shivered. YES!!

Thank you so much, Jennifer for allowing us to share these awesome photos and a bit about your amazing family. Prayers with you always!

We did leave gifts for another family that was in the unit but due to HIPAA laws and other hospital restrictions, we were unable to visit personally with the 7 year old little girl and the family. We do hope they enjoyed their gifts though, and hope they brought smiles!!!! Prayers to them all!!

If you would like to get involved, click the link below to donate so that this project can go on and grow! Our goal is to grow so that we can visit many more hospitals and kids, and one day do even more for these families. Thank you so much for your support!!

YES! I want to help create smiles with BowPosh!

Alzheimer's is defined as "a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. Symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time, becoming severe enough to interfere with daily tasks." Click here to read more about this debilitating disease." -Alz.org

The BowPosh family has joined Alz.org and Walk To End Alz to make these walks and fundraisers fun! We are super excited to be a part of this as we have family members as well suffering from this heartbreaking disease. We want to help in any way we can and this is a great start. Our Fort Myers walk is on 10.25.14 and the Naples walk is on 11.15.14.

DIY Wine Bottle Candle Holders

DIY Wine Bottle Candle Holders

Here is a great DIY tutorial on how to make your own wine bottle candle holders from your awesome collection.

These would be great for your home or a special event such as a wedding. How romantic for the wine connoisseur.

Fire needs oxygen to exist so the flame from the candle does need a nice bit of air flow. The top openings may not be enough so having a space between the bottle and whatever they are sitting on will keep them lit throughout your event. Try decorative, metal trivets. They are beautiful and will not take away from the elegance. Leave the labels on to show your taste or remove them for a sleek look.

By placing the trivets underneath the bottle the flame can breath so your light will not dwindle. If there is not enough oxygen flow (the two candle images on the right of the photo), the flame will die. (Image: ekShiksha)

Bows Are Not Just For Hair

BOWS ARE NOT JUST FOR HAIR

Were moving this post from our old blog to here, YAY!!

This is the most adorable way to jazz up boring drapery in the kids room or any room.

This is perfect for tab top drapery or grommet drapery as the fabric strips can be tied easily around each tab or through two grommets to tie a bow.

The first photo shows how a strip of fabric can simply be tied around each tab into a bow. If your drapery panels are solid, use a bright, girly print and if the drapery has a print, find a lovely coordinating color or print and done! Super fun and something the little princess can help with as well. The best part, they can be switched out whenever another print or color is found or if the decor changes.

Streamers can also be tied the same way. Long strands of beads, rhinestones, and lace; the possibilities are endless.

Do the same for grommet drapery (the drapery with the large metal holes that slide onto the rod).

The second photo shows an example of what can be done to regular panels that are not tab top or grommet style. Take the new strip of fabric, fold in half and stitch to the back of the top of the panel. Use these strips to hang the drapery to the rod but tie the strips into a bow!

These lovely DIY tips will help save you a lot of money but yet give a nice, fresh look to those solid or dated drapery panels :).

If you need a tutorial on how to do these, leave a comment and we will be happy to upload a guide for you!

Also, if you do this, feel free to email us a photo of your before and after shots at info@lauraccole.com and we will do a blog post to show how they can transform a room.

Have fun and happy styling.

My Inspiration

MY INSPIRATION

Where do people usually find inspiration for their work? From magazines, TV, nature, architecture, and many other ways, right? Me, I look at my kids because they have young, creative juices flowing and even when they are being silly playing, there are special moments that give me that little twinkle in my eye. Usually, it is one glance and I just know what to do next.

Without their help (even though they don't know most of the time when they have helped), I find myself pacing around, racking my brain for ideas that refuse to come. I will pull out just about every supply that was neatly stored and mess with them just to end up where I started.

You can't force creativity, it needs to come naturally and when it does that piece will be amazing; something to be incredibly proud of, regardless of the simplicity or complexity. When it feels forced it is time to take a break, relax and revisit with a vision.

This is my daughter, Alexis (10). After the 4th of July parade that she was in, she used the bead necklaces she had collected to make different items such as necklaces, bracelets, belts and head pieces by cutting them into pieces and then reassembling them.

The other day she came in wearing this head piece (that was originally a cool belt that she had made). I looked at her and it hit me. I had been doing the mental search for the new bridal line that is due to be released in just a few months and now at least one out of the twelve has been designed. I also realize that I am a bit late getting started if it is due in a few months but we also recently did a revamp so I am considering it okay this one time ;).

Alexis inspiration

Alexis walked in and when I looked up, I kid you not, the entire design was completed in my head that second. I had the biggest smile on my face because she looked so beautiful and it fills my heart knowing that she loves doing what I do.

The best feeling in the world is knowing that your child is trying to be like you when you haven't pushed for it or secretly guided them. She is talented and since she has chosen this path for now, I will support her 100% and do whatever I can to help her grow with it.

Our kids see everything we do and watch even if we think they don't. They look up to us and many want to be just like us. Give them reasons to be proud and be proud in return! I love my kids with all of my heart and am incredibly blessed to have their love and support with school and my career as well.
